36 cuddle quilts from Ginny Minninger and Sherry Reed.
Choo Choo guild members Sherry Reed (right) and Ginny Minninger (center) delivered 36 cuddle quilts to the Chambliss Center for Children on February 12. Paulette Acord, the Center's Director, and Elizabeth Sexton were there to welcome the gift.

Thank you to Sherry for coordinating this effort and to all the Choo Choo Quilters for their generosity and support. The Cuddle Quilts program is the guild's community service project.

What's a Fabric Panel?

NOTE: Due to weather conditions, the February guild meeting is being cancelled. Stay tuned for details about rescheduling the "Fabric Panels" presentation and the Challenge roll-out. Thanks.

All about Fabric Panels at the February guild meeting.
Fabric panels.

What are they? Have you seen them in your local quilt shop (YLS)? Do you have a few in your stash?

Ahah! You are smiling and nodding… you must have one or more tucked away somewhere.

Well, dig out those clever fabric curiosities and bring them to the February Choo Choo Quilters guild meeting. The program, presented by Veronica Hofman-Ortega, a fabric representative from Blank Quilting and StudioE Fabrics, will be about fabric panels and we'd like to see any panels, quilt tops, quilts or other projects made from panels at Show and Tell. On another note, the 2015 Choo Choo Quilters Challenge will also be presented.

Join us at the next guild meeting—when we'll be talking "Fabric Panels."

Choo Choo Quilters: Kicking off the new year

More Cuddle Quilts turned in at the January meeting.
The Choo Choo Quilters started off 2015 with a big pile of completed Cuddle Quilts! This is the community service project for our guild. The quilts will be dropped off at the Chambliss Center for Children in February.

The January guild meeting was a planning session for the new teams. Team members put their thinking caps on and made plans for this year's monthly programs.

The Choo Choo quilters were busy over the holidays as there were lots of quilts for Show and Tell. Betty showed a framed antique quilt piece. What a great way to preserve a quilter's handiwork that can no longer be used as a functional quilt.
Several cuddle quilts were turned in.

Ginny continues to use up her stash and scraps in this charming one-patch quilt.
Pam was tasked with hand quilting a runner for a friend.
Here is a closeup.
Another hand quilted quilt by Pam.
Sissy showed a pieced and appliqué quilt. The dark background really shows off the colorful appliqué flowers.
And we had another "finish" from the 2013 Brown Bag Challenge. This is Cristy's scrappy string quilt that she made with and for her father-in-law.
Watch for Veronica's quilt, "Pi E2, Exponentially Embellished" in advertisements for AQS [American Quilters Society] shows.
